General Information about Iran | Geography, politics, and climate

Iran, geographically, is located on the northern hemisphere, in the Middle East. The Caspian Sea is on the north of the country and Persian Gulf is on the south. Iran shares borders with Iraq and Turkey from the west, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Armenia from the north, and Afghanistan, and Pakistan from the east.
Land area: 631,659 Sq. mi (1,635,999 Sq. km)
Total area: 636,293 Sq. mi (1,648,000 Sq. km)
The population of Iran is about 80,840,713 and the most populated city is Tehran with more than 10 million people.

Climate: Four Seasons
Iran has various climates and it changes from east to west, and from north to south of the country. However, generally speaking, Iran has an arid climate.
In the northwest of the country, winters are cold with heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures during December and January. In spring and fall, the weather is nice, while summers are relatively dry and hot. On the other hand, in the south, winters are mild and the summers are sweltering hot, having average daily temperatures in July exceeding 38 °C (100.4 °F). Northern cities of Iran, between Alborz mountain range and the Caspian Sea are humid and rainy in spring and summer, and absolutely mild in fall and winter.
