Shiraz in Iran

Places to visit in Shiraz

Visit Shiraz

In case you have decided to take a trip to Iran, travel to Shiraz and visiting glorious attractions in Shiraz is a definitely among first choice. The province of Fars is situated in part of a huge area which was called “Pars” in the distant past. The Shiraz city has been the capital of Fars since the Islamic times. Pars has been the blooming realm of native Iranians such as Acheamenids and Elamites. The first people who settled in Fars following the great migration of Aryans to the vast plateau of Iran were Persians.

Persians have settled there for three thousand years and established the cardinal civilization of the land. Pasargadae turned into the capital of Achaemenids after Cyrus the Great victory over Medes. The huge complex of Persepolis was built by the order of Darius the Great. Both Pasargadae and Persepolis were the ruling capitals of the enormous and extending empire of Achaemenids for centuries.

The Acheamenid Royal Road that was the sole road linking Shush and other cities in Khuzestan stretched through the plain of Shiraz. Fars is a cherished land rife with valuable historical culture and relics in Iran. Many leftovers in Pasargadae, Naqsh-e Rajab and Naqsh-e Rostam, Sarvestan Persepolis, Bishapur, Firuz Abad, and Tang-e Chovgan point out to the everlasting dignity of Fars and never-ending fascination of ancient kings to this land. Fars obtained great significance when the Islam came to this land. The Friday Mosque of Masjid-e Atiq, established by Amr-e Leith-e Safar is among the first edifices of the time when Islam started to grow in this land which is among the oldest historical remains of Shiraz.

Fars was quite flourishing in Safavid, Deylamian, Mozaffar, Saffariyan, Atabakan-e Fars, Al-e, Afshar and Zand eras. The glorious stage of Shiraz was in the Karimkhan’s era who attempted a lot to boost this city and erected a lot of buildings there.
