Sa'ad Abad Palace Complex in Tehran

Sa'ad Abad Palace Complex

Undoubtedly, Sa'ad Abad Complex is a shinning pearl on the historical and cultural ring of Tehran and Iran. Covering an area of 110 hectares and having a unique location in ever exhilarating foothills of Darband, Sa'ad Abad has been one of the greatest and most eye-catching sites in Tehran for tourists from foreign countries and Iranian people. It is an ever glowing spot on the northern part of the city, between Tajrish sq. and Darband sq.
During Qajar dynasty (1794-1925), Sa'ad Abad was a great site to the Royal family to relax all summer long, because of its location and unique features. After attaining the position of authority by Pahlavi, Sa'ad Abad Complex grew larger, and several gardens and new places were added to the former area and it turned into the main residence of the King and the Royal family, specifically during summer.
Later in time, numerous palaces and mansions on diverse occasions were added to the Royal collection, and Sa'ad Abad became larger and more extended than ever. During Pahlavi dynasty, about eighteen other palaces were built which created an outstanding complex that demonstrated the architectural and cultural mastery of Iran.
After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Sa'ad Abad Complex was no longer just a Royal Palace, and it was turned into a historic and cultural museum. The palaces became places for holding different exhibitions, and some other palaces such as White Palace and Green Palace were open to public visitors.
The greatest palace, White Palace, was used for performing ceremonial and official affairs. It was also the summer residence of the second king, Muhammad Reza Shah. It is a 2164-square-meter palace and has a 5000-square-meter basement. White Palace is, absolutely, a super luxurious building, full of excellent luxurious French furniture. Having 54 different parts and 10 huge ceremonial halls, it has been an outstanding construction among the other ones. It, also, has a great theater hall used as dinning room.
Green Palace, incontrovertibly, has been one of the most majestic and regal palaces in Iran. being a magnificent architectural and artisticly designed building in the whole country, the Green Palace is located on a top ground in the north west of Sa'ad Abad Complex. Reza Shah, the first king of Pahlavi dynasty, started repairing and reconstructing this palace in 1923 with the help of a connoisseur architect, named "Mirza Ja'far". The Palace used to be called "Shahsavand Palace", but after the process of renovation, the outer view of the Palace now decorated by unique green pearl stones, was called Green Palace. The Mirror Hall, one of the superb Iranian architectural exploits, is located in Green Palace.
There are other great palaces, museums, and different historic and cultural sites in Sa'ad Abad Complex that catch the eyes of everyone who looks for majestic beauties. Other palaces and museums of Sa'ad Abad Complex are as follows:
Contemporary History and Handicrafts Museum
National Arts Museum
Master Mir Emad Calligraphy Museum
Military Museum
Royal Plates Museum
Royal Cars Museum
Royal Weapons Museum
Royal Kitchen Museum
Water Museum
